  • Poll: Are We Sharing Too Much Information On Social Networks?

I read on Twitter's blog that Twitter set a new record for tweets per second. Someplace near 3300 tps during the World Cup where Japan won over Denmark. How did this happen? (And why Twitter didn't collapse under the tweeting pressure, I don't know.) But Twitter says that this event helped increase the overall average of tweets per second to 750. Foursquare predicted that they will hit 1 million checkins per day somewhere around now. And the 400 million or so users of Facebook share more than 25 billion pieces of content (web links, news stories, blog posts, notes, photo albums, etc.) per month.

We have experienced the great outcomes of sharing information. Discounts, finding new friends, new careers, discovering new passions, productivity gains, new music, etc.

We all have heard about the perils of "oversharing." Lawsuits, Stalking, Cyber-bullying, Addiction, productivity losses, Identity Theft, Hacking etc.

And most of the information that we are sharing is very personal in nature. Photos, Exact Location of where we are, purchase patterns, interests, demographics, specific information about our personal lives. There's no need for The Patriot Act anymore, we are giving the details of our lives WILLINGLY for all to search and discover. The innanet is a beautiful, wonderful, exciting, interesting, ugly, fun, despicable, scary, dangerous, disgusting dream-mare...like Narnia. We should act accordingly in BEFORE there's an issue.

I made a poll about it, like to see it? Here it go.
