Over the weekend, the White House commented on the current SOPA (Stop Online Privacy Act) and PIPA (Protect IP Act) bills that are being discussed by Congress. Both bills are attempts at policing the internet.
While we believe that online piracy by foreign websites is a serious problem that requires a serious legislative response, we will not support legislation that reduces freedom of expression, increases cybersecurity risk, or undermines the dynamic, innovative global Internet.Wikipedia, Reddit, Tucows, BoingBoing and Twitpic will "go dark" tomorrow, Wednesday Jan. 18th, in what's being called SOPAStrike (and similarly #BlackoutSOPA) to show solidarity against the bills that are said that if passed will strangle innovation throughout the internets. How do you feel about this movement? Will you join them? It will be interesting to see what type of effect that this will have on the bills.
